Mid-Autumn Festival

The Mid-Autumn Festival is a Chinese celebration of the Moon, the harvest and family togetherness. It falls on the fifteenth day of the eighth month of the traditional Chinese calendar, so its date on the Gregorian calendar changes each year.

How it is celebrated: families share a meal, admire the Moon and enjoy mooncakes. Lanterns feature in many local celebrations, and children hear the story of Chang'e, who lives on the Moon.

A round mooncake represents completeness and reunion. Sharing one among relatives turns the festival's central idea into something everyone can taste.
