Worship of Tools Day
March 11 · Level 7 · #742 of 2238
This is a day to say thank you to the things that work for us every day: hammers, saws, chisels and screwdrivers. It reminds us that behind every skill stands a dependable tool.
How it is celebrated: makers clean, sharpen and oil their tools, repair old ones and happily talk about their favourites. Even tidying a workshop or a toolbox counts.
Japanese folklore has the idea of tsukumogami: an object that serves for a hundred years is said to gain a spirit. Japan also has rituals of thanks for worn-out things, such as broken sewing needles.
