World Plumbing Day
March 11 · Level 7 · #829 of 2238
This day honours plumbers and the role of safe water supply and sanitation in public health. It reminds us that clean taps and safe drains do not appear by themselves.
How it is celebrated: trade bodies and training schools run open days, exhibitions and school visits that show how pipes work in a home and in a city. Colleagues toast their fellow plumbers, and grateful households remember the flood-free weekends.
The English word plumbing comes from the Latin plumbum, meaning lead, because Roman water pipes were often made of that metal.
