Ural Volunteer Tank Corps Formation Day
March 11 · Level 5 · #1230 of 2238
This remembrance day honors the formation of the Ural Volunteer Tank Corps in 1943 and the public effort behind it. It remembers both the volunteers who went to the front and the Ural communities that supplied their vehicles and equipment.
How it is celebrated: flowers are laid at memorials, museums organize exhibitions and educational gatherings explore the corps' history. Remembrance lessons connect the experiences of tank crews with those of factory workers on the home front.
The corps' equipment was funded through voluntary donations and work beyond production targets. Entire workplaces took part in helping build and equip the formation.
