World Vitiligo Day
June 25 · Level 2 · #1921 of 2238

Vitiligo is a condition in which patches of skin lose their pigment and turn lighter. This day helps people talk about it openly, bust myths and support those who live with it.
How it is celebrated: doctors and patient groups hold talks and consultations, and people with vitiligo share photos and stories online to show that there is nothing to hide. Many cities host meetups and fundraising events.
Vitiligo is not contagious and appears in people of every skin tone. Estimates suggest it affects somewhere between half a percent and two percent of the world's population, and singer Michael Jackson was one of the public figures who spoke about having it.
