Slovenian Statehood Day
June 25 · Level 8 · #640 of 2238
Slovenian Statehood Day marks the country’s 1991 decision to become independent. It celebrates the creation of a sovereign state and recalls the turning point when Slovenia began leaving Yugoslavia.
How it is celebrated: official ceremonies, concerts and community events bring people together. National flags are displayed, and speeches reflect on independence and the country’s future. The main state celebration is usually held on the eve of the holiday.
Slovenia also has an Independence and Unity Day in December. That occasion recalls the announcement of the referendum results; June marks the state decision that followed.
