Day of the Seafarer
June 25 · Level 7 · #772 of 2238
Day of the Seafarer recognises the people who keep merchant ships and global trade moving. It brings attention to crews who spend months away from home, along with their safety, working conditions and wellbeing.
How it is celebrated: maritime organisations, ports and shipping companies run events and public campaigns. Seafarers share photographs and accounts of life aboard ship, helping people ashore understand both the rewards and challenges of the job.
The day was established at a diplomatic conference in Manila in 2010, alongside major amendments to international standards for seafarer training.
