World Typing Day
January 8 · Level 8 · #511 of 2238
This day celebrates the skill of typing quickly and confidently. It is a reminder that touch typing saves time at work, at school and even in games.
How it is celebrated: people test their speed with online trainers, run friendly typing races in offices and classrooms, teach kids to use all ten fingers, and swap stories about old typewriters.
The QWERTY layout on most keyboards goes back to the typewriter developed by American inventor Christopher Latham Sholes in the 1860s. In other words, we still type on a piece of nineteenth-century design.
