World Judo Day
October 28 · Level 10 · #138 of 2238

World Judo Day celebrates a sport where technique, self-control and respect for a partner matter as much as strength. Held on founder Jigoro Kano's birthday, it introduces more people to judo and the values taught alongside its physical skills.
How it is celebrated: clubs and federations offer open training sessions, demonstrations and beginner classes. Coaches explain safety, etiquette and responsibility for a partner as well as throws.
Judo means “the gentle way.” One of its principles is to work with an opponent's movement and effort, rather than meet every push with a stronger push.
