World Horse Day
July 11 · Level 4 · #1485 of 2238

A day to remember horses, which for centuries carried people and cargo, pulled ploughs and still work in sport and therapy. It is a good excuse to thank our four-legged partners and think about their welfare.
How it is celebrated: riding clubs hold open days and trail rides, horse rescues invite visitors, and owners treat their animals to apples and carrots.
Horses can sleep standing up. A special arrangement of tendons and ligaments in their legs lets them doze without falling over, and they lie down only for short spells of deeper rest.
