International Day of Reflection and Commemoration of the 1995 Genocide in Srebrenica
July 11 · Level 3 · #1777 of 2238

This day remembers more than eight thousand Bosnian Muslim men and boys murdered in the 1995 Srebrenica genocide. It honours the victims, supports survivors and calls for remembrance that resists denial of the crimes.
How it is celebrated: commemorations, educational events and the Peace March bring people together. At the Potočari memorial centre, families attend burials of victims whose remains have been identified.
DNA analysis continues to restore victims' names decades later. One person's remains can be recovered from several burial sites because bodies were moved in attempts to conceal evidence of the killings.
