World Green Roof Day
June 6 · Level 4 · #1525 of 2238

This day celebrates roofs that grow grass, flowers and even shrubs. Green roofs cool the city, hold back rainwater and give insects and birds a place to live.
How it is celebrated: architects, landscapers and city officials run rooftop tours, webinars and project showcases. Some people simply plant a few things on the roof of a shed, a garden pavilion or a bus shelter.
In Scandinavia and Iceland, turf roofs were an ordinary sight for centuries, with a layer of earth and grass helping to keep homes warm through cold winters.
