World Diabetes Day

World Diabetes Day calls attention to diabetes and the support people need to live with it. The campaign highlights timely diagnosis, access to treatment and everyday care, alongside the prevention of type 2 diabetes.

How it is celebrated: health services and community groups organize awareness events, educational campaigns and screening activities. Supporters display the blue circle, the international symbol of diabetes awareness, and some landmarks are illuminated in blue.

The date marks the birthday of Frederick Banting, one of the scientists who discovered insulin. That discovery transformed diabetes treatment.
