Bal Diwas — Children's Day in India
November 14 · Level 5 · #1307 of 2238
Bal Diwas puts children and their right to education, health and safety in the spotlight. India's Children's Day falls on the birthday of Jawaharlal Nehru, the country's first prime minister after independence and a strong advocate for education.
How it is celebrated: schools hold performances, games, sports events and competitions. Teachers sometimes take the stage for their pupils, while community organizations draw attention to children who need extra support.
Nehru is affectionately known as Chacha Nehru, meaning Uncle Nehru. That family-style nickname remains closely associated with the occasion.
