World Computer Graphics Day
December 3 · Level 10 · #194 of 2238

An informal day for people who build whole worlds out of pixels: artists, animators, game developers and designers. It celebrates how digital graphics has reshaped film, games, science and design.
How it is celebrated: studios and communities host online meetups and workshops, artists share their latest work, and friends sometimes spend the evening watching favourite animated films or playing visually stunning games.
The field has a famous starting point: Sketchpad, a program Ivan Sutherland created in the early 1960s for his PhD at MIT, which let people draw on a screen with a light pen. And Toy Story, released in 1995, was the first feature-length film made entirely with computer animation.
