International Day of Persons with Disabilities
December 3 · Level 9 · #351 of 2238

A United Nations day that highlights the rights of people with disabilities and their full participation in society. The core idea is simple: the world should be accessible and welcoming for everyone.
How it is celebrated: forums, exhibitions and concerts feature people with disabilities, schools and employers discuss accessible spaces and inclusive hiring, and organisations showcase assistive technology.
The UN General Assembly proclaimed the day in 1992. In December 2006 it adopted the Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities, the first major human rights treaty of the 21st century.
