International Day Against Pesticides
December 3 · Level 8 · #618 of 2238

A day to talk about the risks that hazardous pesticides pose to people, soil, water and wildlife. The aim is to promote safer ways of protecting crops.
How it is celebrated: environmental groups organise talks, campaigns and exhibitions, farmers and scientists discuss biological pest control, and ordinary shoppers learn to read labels and choose food more thoughtfully.
The date is deliberate. On the night of 2 to 3 December 1984, a pesticide plant in Bhopal, India, leaked toxic methyl isocyanate gas, in one of the worst industrial disasters in history.
