World Aviation and Cosmonautics Day
April 12 · Level 9 · #237 of 2238
Aviation and space exploration take centre stage on this day, which honours the people who make flight possible. Its defining milestone is Yuri Gagarin’s journey into space, the first ever made by a human.
How it is celebrated: museums and planetariums host talks, exhibitions and meetings with space travellers. Enthusiasts watch the sky, build model rockets and join Yuri’s Night events that mix space science with music and celebration.
Gagarin’s pioneering flight aboard Vostok 1 lasted just 108 minutes—enough time to circle Earth and change the history of exploration.
