International Day for Street Children

This day turns the spotlight on children who live or spend most of their time on the streets. They need safety, schooling, care and the chance to be heard.

How it is celebrated: groups that work with children hold exhibitions, concerts, sports events and fundraisers, and schools help pupils learn about the lives of young people in hard situations.

In 2017 the UN Committee on the Rights of the Child adopted General Comment No. 21 on children in street situations. It urges states to protect these children and to listen to what they have to say.
