Russian Air Defence Forces Day
April 12 · Level 9 · #386 of 2238
Russia’s Air Defence Forces Day recognises the personnel who detect threats in the sky and protect people and facilities below. It honours a shared effort involving radar operators, missile crews, commanders and other specialists.
How it is celebrated: units organise ceremonial assemblies and award presentations, while veterans receive congratulations. Commemorative gatherings explore the service’s history and remember the people who helped shape it.
Air defence can begin well beyond the reach of human eyesight. Radar locates aircraft using reflected radio waves, allowing operators to detect a target before anyone on the ground can see it.
