World Compassion Day

World Compassion Day invites us to notice other people’s pain and take at least one small kind step. It is an informal date devoted to empathy for people and animals.

How it is celebrated: people help neighbours, donate things or money, try volunteering and write warm words to those close to them. Schools and charities run kindness lessons and campaigns.

The word “compassion” comes from the Latin compassio, which literally means “suffering together”.
