World Information Day
November 26 · Level 7 · #675 of 2238

World Information Day is built on a simple idea: good decisions need good information. It draws attention to open access to data, media literacy and the knack of telling facts from rumours.
How it is celebrated: libraries, schools and universities run open lessons, workshops and quizzes on checking sources, while online campaigns share tips for staying sharp in the digital world.
The word “information” comes from the Latin informare, meaning “to give form to” or “to instruct”. Originally it sounded closer to teaching than to news.
