International Shoemaker Day

International Shoemaker Day is for the craftspeople who make and mend footwear. Thanks to them, a favourite pair of boots can get a second or even a third life.

How it is celebrated: workshops hold open days and show how the last, the awl and the waxed thread do their job. Colleagues and customers send thanks, and plenty of people finally bring in the shoes they have been putting off repairing.

In the Christian tradition, Saints Crispin and Crispinian are the patrons of shoemakers, and their feast falls on 25 October in the Western calendar.
