Russian Navy Day
July 26 · Level 10 · #46 of 2238
Russian Navy Day honours naval personnel, veterans and the traditions of life at sea. It recognises the crews aboard surface ships and submarines, alongside the people whose work ashore keeps the fleet operating.
How it is celebrated: ships hold ceremonial flag raisings, coastal communities host events, and flowers are laid at naval memorials. Where ship visits are arranged, guests can meet sailors and get a glimpse of life aboard.
The blue diagonal cross on the Russian naval ensign gives it its familiar name: the St Andrew’s flag.
