Russian Marine Corps Day
November 27 · Level 10 · #108 of 2238
Marine Corps Day honours naval infantry, the troops who land from ships and fight on the shore. It recalls their feats and the traditions of this branch of service.
How it is celebrated: there are solemn parades, flowers laid at memorials, meetings of veterans with young marines, demonstrations and concerts. Comrades and families send their congratulations.
The date goes back to an order of Peter the Great in 1705 (16 November in the old calendar), which created Russia’s first marine regiment.
