Buy Nothing Day
November 27 · Level 9 · #399 of 2238

Buy Nothing Day is a protest against mindless shopping. For twenty-four hours people are invited to buy nothing and ask themselves how much they really need.
How it is celebrated: activists stage street performances, clothes swaps and giveaways, while many people simply spend the day on a walk, at home or mending an old jacket.
The campaign began in 1992, and the Canadian magazine Adbusters became its best-known promoter. In North America it falls on the day after Thanksgiving, which is Black Friday.
