Russian Animation Day
April 8 · Level 4 · #1477 of 2238

Russian Animation Day celebrates the art of bringing drawings, puppets and digital characters to life. It recognises both the audiences who love animated films and the many creative specialists who make them.
How it is celebrated: cinemas, studios and cultural venues host screenings, filmmaker conversations and practical workshops. Familiar classics share programmes with newer short films.
The date recalls the 1912 release of Vladislav Starevich’s The Beautiful Leukanida. Its insect characters were animated through stop-motion techniques, giving early Russian animation an unusually small and many-legged cast of stars.
