Roast Chestnuts Day
December 14 · Level 7 · #828 of 2238

Warm roasted chestnuts are a winter treat, and their smell drifts over every Christmas market. This day is for roasting them and eating them while they are hot.
How it is celebrated: people cut a cross in each shell so it will not burst, then roast the chestnuts in an oven, in a pan or over an open fire. They are best eaten hot from a paper cone, which also warms the hands.
The Christmas Song, with its line about chestnuts roasting on an open fire, was written in 1945 by Mel Tormé and Bob Wells, and Nat King Cole recorded it in 1946.
