International Monkey Day
December 14 · Level 2 · #1991 of 2238
International Monkey Day is a playful holiday that makes people laugh while reminding them how wild primates are faring. It began in 2000 as the brainchild of two American artists and then spread across the internet.
How it is celebrated: people put on monkey costumes, draw goofy monkeys and throw themed parties, while zoos and conservation groups talk about primates and raise money to protect them.
Gorillas and chimpanzees are not monkeys in the strict sense but apes, and they have no tails. So congratulate them with care.
