Free Shipping Day
December 14 · Level 7 · #682 of 2238
This unofficial day of pre-holiday online shopping has stores offering free delivery so that gifts arrive in time for Christmas. It grew out of the American habit of buying presents on the internet.
How it is celebrated: shoppers check their gift lists and place orders, while participating stores promise delivery before Christmas with no shipping fee. The organised compare prices and double-check delivery dates.
The idea rests on timing: in mid-December standard delivery can still get parcels to the door before 24 December, which is why stores pick this date.
