Russia's NBC Protection Troops Day
November 13 · Level 10 · #144 of 2238
Russia's NBC Protection Troops Day honours military personnel specialising in nuclear, biological and chemical protection. Their work includes detecting contamination, protecting service members and decontaminating people, equipment and affected areas.
How it is celebrated: military units hold ceremonial formations, present awards and welcome veterans. Exhibitions and demonstrations introduce protective equipment, detection instruments and specialised vehicles used by the troops.
Military chemical troops helped respond to the Chernobyl nuclear disaster. Their expertise and equipment were needed to deal with radioactive contamination, showing how this military specialism can also be called upon during a major civilian emergency.
