Azerbaijan's Independence Restoration Day
October 18 · Level 10 · #96 of 2238
Azerbaijan's Independence Restoration Day recalls the constitutional act on state independence adopted in October 1991. It connects the modern republic with an earlier period of Azerbaijani statehood in the early twentieth century.
How it is celebrated: commemorative and cultural events, exhibitions and history lessons explore the country's path to sovereignty. Official greetings mark the occasion, and the national flag features prominently in displays.
Azerbaijan has two separate independence dates. The May observance recalls the republic founded in 1918; the October occasion marks the restoration of independence in 1991.
