Cravat Day
October 18 · Level 2 · #1855 of 2238

Cravat Day celebrates the small accessory that can make an ordinary shirt feel ready for an occasion. It has a particular home in Croatia, where the cravat is recognised as a piece of cultural heritage and a national symbol.
How it is celebrated: people wear ties, visit themed exhibitions and take part in cultural events. In Croatia, even statues receive neckwear, bringing familiar city landmarks into the festivities.
The French word cravate comes from a name for the Croats. Neckcloths worn by Croatian soldiers helped introduce the fashion to seventeenth-century France.
