World Dhole Day
May 28 · Level 5 · #1263 of 2238
World Dhole Day draws attention to a threatened wild dog native to Asia. These social predators need connected habitats and enough wild prey, but habitat loss and conflict with people make survival increasingly difficult.
How it is celebrated: conservation groups and zoos introduce audiences to dholes through photographs, educational posts and talks. Supporters spread the word and contribute to work protecting the species and its habitat.
Dholes communicate with distinctive whistle-like calls. For a pack moving through dense vegetation, sound can help keep everyone in touch when they cannot see one another.
