Kyrgyzstan Border Guards Day
May 28 · Level 7 · #796 of 2238

Kyrgyzstan's Border Guards Day honours the people who protect the country's borders and staff its frontier posts. It recognises serving personnel, veterans and the families who support a job that can mean long periods far from home.
How it is celebrated: ceremonial formations, awards and meetings with veterans mark the day. Flowers are laid at memorials to fallen border guards, and former colleagues gather to remember their service together.
Kyrgyzstan shares borders with Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, Tajikistan and China. Much of its frontier runs through mountains, making the landscape itself a demanding part of the job.
