Fast of Days of Sorrow and Weeping
March 16 · Level 1 · #2198 of 2238

This is a religious period of abstinence, prayer and repentance. Believers reflect on sorrow, ask forgiveness and practise restraint.
How it is celebrated: believers limit their food and entertainment, attend services more often, and read prayers and psalms. Many also help people in need and remember the departed.
In many Christian traditions a fast is about more than food: it is meant to go hand in hand with prayer and almsgiving, so that self-denial becomes a way to help others.
