International Panda Day
March 16 · Level 8 · #589 of 2238
A day for the giant panda, one of the most loved and recognisable animals on Earth, and a nudge that the species still needs protection.
How it is celebrated: zoos and reserves serve pandas festive bamboo treats, while fans read about them, draw, craft and support conservation programmes.
In 2016 the International Union for Conservation of Nature moved the giant panda from "endangered" to "vulnerable" on its Red List, a result of years of conservation work.
