Polka Dot Day
January 22 · Level 1 · #2042 of 2238

A day devoted to the cheeriest pattern around: round dots on clothes, mugs and even walls. It is the perfect excuse to put on something spotty and smile.
How it is celebrated: people wear polka dot shirts, scarves and socks to work, decorate desks with paper circles, and the bravest paint dots right on their cheeks.
The Japanese artist Yayoi Kusama became famous for dotted installations. Her rooms covered in colourful spots on walls and objects are among the most recognisable works of contemporary art.
