Hot Sauce Day
January 22 · Level 8 · #572 of 2238

A day for everyone who thinks lunch isn't finished until something on the plate fights back. Hot sauce takes the seat of honour in the middle of the table.
How it is celebrated: friends hold tasting sessions that run from mild to blazing, splash sauce on familiar dishes and dare each other to survive the hottest drop without reaching for water.
The heat of chili peppers is measured on the Scoville scale, named after the American pharmacologist Wilbur Scoville, who devised it in 1912. His original method relied on human tasters.
