Russian Air Defence Aviation Day
January 22 · Level 10 · #146 of 2238
Russian Air Defence Aviation Day honours the pilots and ground specialists behind aerial interception. It recognises both the crews who respond to airborne targets and the engineers and technicians who keep their aircraft ready.
How it is celebrated: units congratulate serving personnel and veterans, hold ceremonial gatherings and recognise distinguished service. Meetings also provide opportunities to revisit unit history and share experience with younger crews and maintenance teams.
An interceptor does not have to find its target alone. Ground-based radar can detect an aircraft and guide the interceptor towards it, making an aerial mission a coordinated effort.
