Blondie Day
January 22 · Level 2 · #1937 of 2238

A blondie is the fair-haired cousin of the brownie: a dense, chewy bar with no cocoa but plenty of buttery, caramel flavour. Today it steps out of its chocolate relative's shadow.
How it is celebrated: people bake blondies at home, stir in nuts, white chocolate chips or salted caramel, and hand squares round to colleagues and neighbours.
The golden colour and butterscotch scent come from brown sugar. It still contains molasses, which gives the bars their caramel notes and keeps them soft.
