Poet's Day
August 21 · Level 2 · #1904 of 2238
Poet's Day honours people who can fit a whole world into a few lines. It is a good excuse to revisit a favourite poem or even try writing one yourself.
How it is celebrated: poetry evenings and open-mic nights are held, friends read verses aloud to each other, people swap favourite lines, and the bravest scribble a poem of their own.
The first author in history known by name is Enheduanna, a priestess of ancient Mesopotamia who composed hymns more than four thousand years ago.
