Opera Day

A day to remember the art form that combines drama, orchestra and voices that fill a hall without a microphone. It is an invitation to hear an aria and maybe get to the theatre.

How it is celebrated: fans go to performances, replay favourite recordings and watch broadcasts from famous opera houses. Newcomers start with the best-known arias and try to follow the plot.

Euridice by Jacopo Peri, staged in Florence in 1600, is the oldest opera whose music survives complete.
