Russian Science Day
February 8 · Level 8 · #535 of 2238

Russian Science Day recognises researchers and the discoveries that expand our understanding of the world. Established in 1999, it marks the anniversary of Peter the Great's decision to found the Academy of Sciences in 1724.
How it is celebrated: universities and research institutes organise talks, tours, conferences and meetings with scientists. Researchers receive awards, while school and university students see how a question can develop into an experiment or a research project.
Peter's Academy was designed to do more than conduct research: the plan also included a university and a secondary school to educate future scholars.
