Nuclear Support Specialist Day in Russia
September 4 · Level 10 · #182 of 2238
This Russian military observance recognises specialists responsible for the maintenance, storage and safety of nuclear weapons. It honours work that depends on exacting procedures and technical precision.
How it is celebrated: relevant military units hold ceremonies, present service awards and congratulate personnel and veterans. They also remember those who helped establish the nuclear support system.
The date recalls the creation of a special General Staff department to oversee nuclear weapons testing in 1947—before the Soviet Union had conducted its first nuclear test.
