International Taekwondo Day

International Taekwondo Day brings together people who practise the Korean martial art known for its varied kicking techniques. Alongside athletic achievement, it celebrates discipline, respect for opponents and steady personal improvement.

How it is celebrated: schools and federations organise demonstrations, introductory classes and group training sessions. Experienced athletes show their skills while newcomers explore basic techniques and competition rules.

The date commemorates the International Olympic Committee's 1994 decision to include taekwondo in the Games. Its first Olympic medals were awarded at Sydney 2000.
