National Youth Day in Cameroon
February 11 · Level 8 · #664 of 2238

Cameroon's National Youth Day celebrates young people and their place in the country's future. A public holiday, it brings education, civic participation and opportunities for the next generation into national focus.
How it is celebrated: schoolchildren, students and youth organisations take part in parades, cultural performances and sporting events. Youth activities lead up to the holiday, and the president traditionally addresses the country's young people on the eve of the celebration.
The date also recalls the 1961 plebiscite in British Cameroons. The southern territory voted to join the Republic of Cameroon, while the northern territory chose to join Nigeria.
