This is a nudge to take your guitar out of its case, or out of the back of the wardrobe, and actually play it. Three chords are plenty; the point is to make some noise.
How it is celebrated: players host living-room gigs or jam in the garden, beginners learn their first song, and anyone whose guitar has been gathering dust restrings it and tunes up.
A standard guitar has six strings, tuned from the lowest to the highest as E, A, D, G, B, E. That simple set is enough for thousands of songs.
