More Herbs, Less Salt Day
August 29 · Level 1 · #2214 of 2238

This day nudges cooks to let herbs do the work that the salt shaker usually does. Fresh and dried herbs add aroma and punch to a dish while keeping the sodium down.
How it is celebrated: people reach for basil, dill, rosemary, thyme or parsley instead of salt, try a new herb-heavy recipe, or start a little pot of greens on the kitchen windowsill.
The World Health Organization advises adults to eat less than five grams of salt a day, which is about one level teaspoon.
