Lemon Juice Day

Lemon Juice Day

This day is a toast to the sour, sunny juice that sits in kitchens and bars around the world. A squeeze of lemon brightens a cup of tea, a fish fillet or a salad dressing in seconds.

How it is celebrated: people mix homemade lemonade, add juice to marinades, desserts and hot tea, and dare each other to hold a lemon wedge in their mouths without making a face.

In 1747 the Scottish naval surgeon James Lind compared several remedies for scurvy aboard HMS Salisbury. The sailors who were given citrus fruit recovered fastest.
